Foster A Better World. Become A Foster Parent.

A primary goal of the Foster Care Program is to create growth and systemic change in children and families in order to create future healthy generations of families. Whenever possible, the necessary steps are taken to reunite children with their birth families. If that goal is out of reach, foster parents act as a child’s support, helping to prepare them for adoption or independent living.

The House provides foster families for children in Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties.

Evan's Story

Healing has not been easy for Evan. It took years of therapy and patience from the staff at The House. Early on, Evan would sit in silence during his therapy sessions, holding in all of his trauma. To break the silence, Evan's therapist would ask him to read aloud. Finally, when his parents were arrested, he felt safe. He began to trust and realize that he could transform his life. He started doing better in school; he was unstoppable.
